As Eid is just around the corner, I thought of enhancing my knowledge about Mosques in India. In my lifetime, I have never visited a mosque, so thought of exploring the mosques in our country.  Did you know mosques in India are known for their marvellous dome shaped architecture? Tourists - from across the world - come to visit these mosques with hearts full of hope and to explore their beauty.  If ever you have a plan to explore India, do not miss visiting the mosques as these only add beauty to your overall travel experiences, and fill your heart with purity and love.

Jama Masjid, Delhi – The Jama Masjid is one of the biggest mosques in India. This divine eminent holy place was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan between 1644 and 1656 CE. It can accommodate a total of 25000 people under one shell. The place accommodates three gates, four towers and two 40 m high minarets. People worship this majestic place to pure their souls and mind. It is an epitome of purity and true love for the Almighty.
Hazratbal Masjid, Jammu and Kashmir – The name Hazrat is derived from combining two words Hazrat and bal, Hazrat from the Urdu word which means respected and the Kashmiri word bal which means place. It means it is the place which is given high regards and is respected among the people.  Visit this holy divine place with hearts fill with love and purity. This majestic piece adds beauty to the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Cheraman Juma Mosque, Kerala – The Cheraman Juma Mosque in Kerala is considered to be the first mosque in India. This gorgeous piece on earth is known for its marvellous beauty and charm. It is the oldest yet the prettiest. Many worshippers worship this holy place with a lot of hope. Since the time it has been constructed, the mosque has undergone many renovations. Do visit the Cheraman Juma Mosque if ever you plan to go to Kerala.
Taj-ul-Masajid, Madhya Pradesh – The Taj-ul-masjid is situated in Bhopal is one of the largest mosque in India with interior spanning about 43000 square feet. The name Taj-ul-Masajid literally means “Crown among Mosques.” The Taj-ul-Masajid resembles the Jama Masjid in Delhi and the Huge Badshah mosque in Lahore. This holy divine place is located by a lake known as Motia Talab.
Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb – The Jamali Kamali Mosque and Tomb has two monuments that stand adjacent to each other - one is the mosque and the other is the tomb that belongs to Jamali and Kamali. As both of them were buried together, their names are tagged together as “Jamali Kamali” both for the mosque and the tomb. It is built in with red stone with marble embellishments.
Nagina Masjid, Agra – The Nagina Masjid was built by great emperor shah Jahan and is also known as the Gem Mosque or the jewel Mosque. The construction is done using pure marbles and encloses the prayer chamber exquisitely designed. It is a pure example of simplicity at its best.
Tomb of Salim Chishti, Uttar Pradesh – The Tomb of Salim Chishti is situated in Uttar Pradesh. It is a true example of what beauty is. It is a four sided figure granite grave of Sheikh Salim Chishti. It is located at the Fatehpur Sikri near Agra. The mosque was constructed by the great Emperor Akbar. People come in groups to visit this holy place. You can also feel the serene experience by visiting the Tomb of Salim Chishti once in a lifetime.
Sharif Dargah, Ajmer – The Ajmer Dargah Sharif is also known as the “Holy Dargah” and is one of the mainly holy places of worship in India. The Ajmer Sharif has huge openings with silver gates. If ever plan to explore Ajmer, do keep in mind that visiting this divine place can only make your journey a little more fruitful.
Haji Ali Mosque, Maharashtra – The Haji Ali, Mosque in Maharashtra is one of the most popular mosques in India. It is both mosque and dargah that is located on the islet of the coast of Worli. It is an exquisite example of Indo-Islamic Architecture which has been associated with legends about doomed lovers. People visit this divine place with a lot of hope in their hearts.
Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra, Ajmer – The Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra is a mosque situated in the Ajmer city of Rajasthan. It is one of the oldest mosques in India. This beautiful piece on the city of Ajmer is the oldest surviving monument. It is among the earliest examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. People believe that all their wishes come true if they worship the Almighty with pure heart and soul. Visit Adhai Din Ka Jhonpra to feel the magic of pure soul and mind.
Quwwat-ul- Islam Masjid, Delhi – Delhi is known for having the most astonishing mosques and the Quwwat – ul-Islam is one such example of it. For all those who understand the value of heritage, the Quwwat-ul-Islam should be visited. It is simply a master piece that deserves to be viewed at least once in a life time.
Moti Masjid, Agra – The Moti Masjid was built by the great emperor Shah Jahan. This very mosque was constructed for his members of royal court. The Moti Masjd is an eye satisfying place in India. It is one of the most beautiful mosques in India.
